In an official statement released today, Google has acknowledged an ongoing investigation into an indexing issue that has hampered the visibility of a “small number of sites” in its Search results. The problem first surfaced at approximately 11:30 pm ET on Wednesday, January 31, as webmasters and site owners began reporting irregularities with Google Search indexing.

Google confirmed the issue in a post at 4:42 am ET this morning, assuring users that they are actively working to address the problem. The tech giant admitted that some sites may be experiencing slower indexing times than usual, emphasizing their commitment to identifying the root cause and providing an update within the next 12 hours.

Webmasters and content creators have been advised that if they observe delays in their new or updated content appearing in Google Search, the issue likely stems from the ongoing technical problem on Google’s end. The company has assured users that they are diligently working on resolving the indexing issues impacting select publishers.

Although Google maintains that the problem affects only a “small number of sites,” numerous complaints have surfaced across the internet regarding indexing issues over the past several hours.

Danny Sullivan, Google’s Search Liaison, responded to one of the complaints, indicating that the company is actively engaging with users affected by the indexing issue. Google has not provided a specific timeline for the resolution of the problem but assures users that updates on the progress of the investigation will be shared promptly.

Webmasters and site owners are encouraged to stay informed and monitor Google’s official communications for updates on the ongoing indexing issue affecting a subset of websites in Google Search results.
